Christian Universities for Chloe

If my child was to go to college, which is 18 years from now, where would I send her? A Christian University of course. But which one? A very good one of course! How do I know if it's good? I do my due diligence... find out which rank highly in world academics and in God's eyes... and talk to the products of the institutions... talk to great Christians who have come out of them. For those who don't care to do all that, you can just read up on what I've found:

Azusa Pacific University

Azusa Pacific University, one of the best Christian colleges and universities in the nation, is a Southern California Christian university near Los Angeles. Azusa Pacific University secured a place in the most prestigious category of the U.S.News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges 2008 rankings, categorized alongside premier national universities such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. Biola University

It's motto is "Above All, Give Glory to God." Biola is recognized as a "National University" by US News & World Report - one of 229 out of the 3,300 institutions of higher learning in the United States that are considered to be the "major leagues" of higher education. Specifically, Biola is classified as a "Third Tier, National University" by US News. All undergraduate students are required to take 30 units of Bible classes, regardless of their major, resulting in a minor in theological and biblical studies. The mission of Biola University is "biblically centered education, scholarship, and service — equipping men and women in mind and character to impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ". Biola is celebrating its centennial during the 2007-2008 school year. On February 25, 2008, Biola celebrated its 100th birthday. The internationally recognized band, Switchfoot, headlined a midnight celebration on campus launching the official centennary festivities. Lead singer, Jon Foreman, even assisted President Corey in blowing out Biola's birthday cake on stage.

Pepperdine University

The Princeton Review ranked Pepperdine on the list of colleges with "Dorms Like Palaces" in 2004 and 2007 and #1 under "Most Beautiful Campus" in 2006 and 2007. Pepperdine also appeared on other lists including "Students Pray on a Regular Basis," and "High Quality of Life." Because of its Christian affiliation, many contend that the student body breeds a religious and politically conservative atmosphere. Its law school is rated as 59th among the top 100 law schools in the country by U.S. News and World Reports, and the Straus Institute has appeared as #1 in the field of dispute resolution. The Graziadio School of Business & Management has been consistently ranked by BusinessWeek as having one of the world's Top 25 Executive MBA programs, and US News & World Report has ranked the Graziadio School's Fully-Employed MBA program in the world's Top 30 and its Full-Time MBA program in the world's Top 100. My amazing Sociology professor came from here. She worked 25 years for the FBI before teaching.

Huntington University

Located in Indiana and as one of the nation’s top-ranked Christian colleges, Huntington offers more than 70 academic programs, including new bachelor’s degrees in nursing, Spanish and Spanish education, digital media arts, economics and finance, political studies, social work, sports ministry and worship leadership. Huntington also offers master’s degrees in education, counseling and ministry. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. Top Chrsitian Colleges according to Relevant Christian Magazine:

1. Baylor University (Waco, Texas) – the largest Baptist-affiliated school in the world and offers over 146 undergraduate degrees
2. Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Mich.) – host of the annual faith and music festival
3. Pepperdine University (Malibu, Calif.) – featuring multiple international campuses as well as a strong athletics program. Included in US News & World Report as a Top College.
4. Wheaton College (Wheaton, Ill.) – ranked 11th in the nation in the total number of graduates who go on to earn doctorates
5. Biola University (La Miranda, Calif.) – winner of the Robert and Susan Andringa Award for Advancing Racial Harmony and hosts the annual Biola Media Conference for those interested in the entertainment field


So glad there are many options here in California for my Chloe... no need for PCC in Pensecola, Florida, I guess. No offense but I was sad that I did not find the school in any rankings - both secular and Christian - but years back, I read an article on its hospital, Baptist Health Care's greatness as Top Place to Work For and The Beka Academy, the standard for Christian education nationwide, stems from PCC.
